For Oscar Elikem, a third-year Doctor of Pharmacy student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Kumasi, the vacation was more than just a break from lectures, it became more practical and reshaped his career aspiration.
Oscar shared his internship experience at the Eastern Regional Government Hospital, where he was attached to the Diabetic and Hypertensive Unit and assisted in dispensing medications to patients managing diabetes and hypertension.
He highlighted the practical differences between academic learning and real-world applications, which enhanced his understanding of his program.
“What I learnt in class and on the field is different,” he added.
Oscar emphasised the value of internships in opening new opportunities and deepening his knowledge of the pharmacy field.
“I will continue doing my internship because of the opportunities it opens and also get to know more about the program,’’ he said.
His internship exposed him to the program's practical aspects and underscored the importance of such experiences in his professional development.
